WebAug 19, 2011 · The paint on your dif cover is a higher quality product then anything you can get out of a spray can. Rather then wire-wheel it, sand or wire wheel only the rusty areas. Slightly rough up the sound paint surfaces with a scotch-brite pad. Clean the hell out of the cover before painting.

I not only painted the inside surface of my diff cover with red oxide primer, but I taped off all the journals and painted the inside of my housings too after I sweated them to get good adhesion. WebSep 26, 2009 · Place an oil catch pan under the differential. Using the square head of a 3/8" ratchet extension, remove the fill plug from the differential cover and then the drain plug. The drain plug has a magnet for picking up the normal wear metal filings. Clean it with brake cleaner spray and a paper towel.
